The Spiraling Nature of Transformation

We speak of healing and transformation as though it were a line. A process with a start and an end, with a road stretching between them.

This is not how it happens.

Transformation moves the way water moves: finding the low places, circling as an eddy for a while, disappearing underground before it reappears as a fresh spring, somewhere you didn’t expect it. It doesn’t consult the map you (or someone else) drew. It has never once agreed to your timeline.

And so the invitation is not to plan the journey.

The invitation is to stay in relationship with what you desire, and be with what arrives.

Most of us weren’t prepared to move through life this way. Our culture tells us to seek the plan, the technique, the five steps, the person who has already walked this road and can tell us exactly where to place our feet (as though we were all built the same). We want the process done, now. There’s comfort in that kind of certainty, and hope in having an end point, and there’s nothing wrong with embarking on a set program.

But a path imposed from outside rarely holds the whole of a person. It asks them to arrive somewhere before they’re actually there. Real transformation rarely moves that way; it comes in pieces. Phases. A door opens in you, and then it closes again, and you listen for the next door to reveal itself. There is circling back and deepening. Doors opening within doors. There are periods of complete stillness. There are leaps and bounds. There is revelation and integration. What is asked of you is your availability for it, and your loving presence with what shows up. It is a willingness to stay open to what is actually here, rather than what you expected to find.

This can feel challenging − because not knowing feels, in the body, the same as being lost. Our nervous systems were not built to tolerate the open question for long. They want resolution. They want the next step named and the outcome guaranteed. The unknown can feel unsafe, especially without a steady witness − whether that’s you or someone else. So we grasp for certainty in places that cannot offer it, and we mistake the grasping for progress.

Often, being in the unknown is the clearest sign that something real is moving in you. We can learn to remain open in those spaces, knowing that our presence with ourselves is what reveals the next layer of the mystery.

The work is small and enormous at once: see what is actually within you. Not the benchmark someone else experienced on their journey, not the future you’re hoping for, not the past you’re trying to heal or understand, but the piece of truth that’s asking for your attention right now. Allow it to be, without rushing to interpret it, and see what happens next in you. When curiosity arises, follow it. Or when the next step becomes clear, take it. You’re not climbing an entire staircase, just taking the step you can see from where you’re standing within the spiral. From here, new inner worlds are revealed.

This is how we heal. It’s how we evolve, how we transform. In truly being with what’s present, you allow inner movement, faithfully tending to what’s organic − what’s truly here, now − knowing it’s the next piece in the wondrous creation of You... and one day you look back and see that you have become someone you could not have planned... simply by listening for your truth, moment to moment.

No map can draw where you’re headed − only your willingness to keep listening, and the wonder of the design that is already and always moving in you.

I am shining infinite blessings of light into your beautiful heart.

Love,

Aowyn
